Need Assistance?

You've Come to the Right Place.

If you’re finding it difficult getting to doctor and other essential appointments or getting groceries because you are no longer able to drive, People Who Care would like to help.

Our volunteers provide free door-through-door transportation for enrolled Neighbors in our communities. This means the volunteer stays with you until your appointment or errand is completed.

Prospective volunteers attend an informational meeting followed by a personal staff application interview, reference calls and appropriate background screening.

People Who Care enables more people to stay independent in their homes by providing these services for no charge:

  • Rides to Essential Appointments
  • Escorted Grocery Shopping
  • Grocery Orders Pick-up & Delivery
  • Personal Paperwork Assistance
  • Friendly Visits
  • Reassuring Phone Calls
  • Family Caregiver Relief
  • Home Safety Program
  • Minor Home Repairs
  • 911 Emergency Call Units
  • Technology Assistance
  • Pet to Vet

Project Safe Home

When you enroll with People Who Care, we will perform a Home Safety Assessment to ensure your home is as safe and functional as possible. Our volunteers can point out any safety hazards and offer simple solutions – providing and installing items that make your home a safer, easier place to live.

Items we may provide:

  • Smoke detectors and batteries
  • Small fire extinguishers
  • LED flashlights
  • Automatic night lights
  • Non-slip bathmats

Short Term Assistance

Having surgery or recovering from an illness?  We are happy to help on a short-term basis!  However, because our enrollment process may take several weeks, we recommend that you contact us to get the process started well in advance of your surgery date. That way, we can provide the services you need when the time comes.

All Our Services are at
No Charge to You

There is NEVER ANY CHARGE for the assistance we provide to our Neighbors, and our volunteers do NOT accept tips for their services. All volunteers go through an interview, reference check, and background screening process.

Enrollment Process

Our enrollment process includes both a phone interview and an in-person interview at your home with one of our volunteer intake coordinators. Enrollment can take several weeks depending on the intake visit scheduling.

Enrollment Criteria

You may qualify for services from People Who Care if:

  • You are at least 18 years of age.
  • You live in Chino Valley, Prescott, Prescott Valley or Dewey.
  • You cannot drive due to physical limitations, including medical, vision, hearing, and age-related challenges. These limitations may be temporary, such as being unable to drive after knee surgery.
  • You live independently (not in an assisted living community). You may still qualify if you live with a spouse or family member.
  • You have limited access to family or community support.
  • You call our office on your own behalf.

You can receive transportation from People Who Care if:

  • You can enter and exit your home – and a vehicle – with minimal assistance.*
  • You do not require a full-size oxygen tank.

*Minimal assistance is providing a steady arm momentarily. Volunteers are not able to lift or pull. If a person can be transferred unassisted from their walker or wheelchair in and out of a vehicle, they can be transported. If a wheelchair is used, arrangements must be previously arranged for it to be available at the destination as we cannot transport wheelchairs.
